A backrest that is not bolted to anything raises one question in every specification meeting: what stops it sliding? Pedrali answers with weight and friction. The 209.3 backrest of Buddy Oasi measures 80×35 cm (31.5×13.8 in) for 15.6 kg (34.4 lb) — roughly two thirds of the smallest ottoman it leans against — because a steel ballast sits inside the moulded foam, and the underside is finished in non-slip fabric. Nothing is drilled into the seat, nothing is clipped on, and the piece can be lifted away by one person when the layout changes. For an operator who reconfigures a lobby twice a year, that is what separates a joiner's visit from a Tuesday morning.

The seat itself is a pine plywood panel moulded with flexible polyurethane foam at 29 kg/m³, upholstered in fabric; the backrest cushion runs at 60-65 kg/m³, so the two components behave differently under the same hand. Four sizes cover the range — 110×110 cm (43.3×43.3 in) or 200×110 cm (78.7×43.3 in), at 40 or 45 cm of seat height (15.7 or 17.7 in) — and the same shapes exist outdoors under the E codes. Beyond the islands the Buddy collection continues with the 210-215 ottomans, which repeat outdoors as 210E to 215E, the S versions with a fixed back, the 218 and 219 sofas with or without armrests, the turning tablet and the Buddyhub armchair with its acoustic panel — and Buddyhub Box, where the same panel wraps a two- or four-seater. La Mercanti reads the backrest count with the floor plan open: one backrest makes a sofa, two make a double-sided bench, and the second one changes the circulation around the piece.

FAQ

Which fabrics can go on the outdoor version, and which cannot?
The outdoor sheet lists category D with two exceptions, D40÷D44 and D120÷D123, plus the ranges G260÷G263 and G270÷G272. Those two G ranges are the outdoor collections designed by FormaFantasma; everything the indoor version wears in category C, E, H or N stays indoors.
Is the piece supplied ready to use?
It is supplied disassembled, one piece per carton. The largest island travels in 0.885 m³ (31.3 cu ft) and weighs 48.5 kg (106.9 lb), so the assembly point is worth deciding before the delivery date rather than after.
What testing does Pedrali declare for this range?
Sixteen tests to EN 1728:2012+AC:2013 assessed at level L2 of EN 16139:2013, and the same set is printed on the outdoor sheet as well. Fire reaction, class 1 IM to EN 1021-1 and EN 1021-2, is declared on the indoor version only.
How many leg finishes are available?
Thirteen powder coated finishes on the indoor version and sixteen outdoors — the outdoor list adds three that the indoor one does not carry. The feet are always black technopolymer.
How do the ottomans, the Oasi islands and the sofas differ?
The 210-215 ottoman is a single seat, from 55×55 to 110×55 cm (21.7×21.7 to 43.3×21.7 in). The Oasi island reaches 110×110 or 200×110 cm and becomes a sofa when a backrest is set on it. The 218 and 219 sofas have a fixed back instead: one family, three ways to sit.

Measuring the route before a Buddy delivery arrives

Five checks on doors, lifts and turns, so that a 200 cm carton reaches the lobby without being unpacked in the street.

Write down the carton, not the product
Cartons change with the version: 0.109 m³ (3.8 cu ft) for a 210 ottoman, 0.865 m³ (30.5 cu ft) for a Buddy Oasi 208, three cartons for a 218 or 219 sofa. That volume, not the finished piece, is what has to travel: measure the narrowest door on the route and compare it with the long side of the box.
Check the lift diagonal
A 200 cm (78.7 in) carton rarely lies flat in a passenger lift. Measure the car diagonally, floor to ceiling, and note the door width: if the diagonal is short, the delivery goes up the stairs and needs two people.
Measure the turn, not the corridor
Corridors are generous, turns are not. Take the width at the tightest ninety-degree turn and add the depth of the carton: this is the check that most often sends a delivery back to the loading bay.
Mark where the island lands
Set out the 200×110 cm (78.7×43.3 in) footprint on the floor with tape and walk around it. A metre of clearance on the approach side is the difference between a seat and an obstacle.
Book the last metre for two people
The final turn into the room is where damage happens. Buddy Oasi weighs up to 48.5 kg (106.9 lb) and is carried by the sides, never by the upholstery: plan two people and a clear floor for that stretch.
