Bespoke: size, colour, finish

A reception counter works two jobs at once: stage set for the visitor, control desk for the person who spends eight hours behind it. Nice by Las Mobili — the house behind the Jera desk — designed by Studio Si, treats that double life as architecture. Towards the guest: a stage of horizontal decorative bands in 3d-foil wood, rear-lacquered tempered glass or white polycarbonate with LED backlighting, framed in satin-chrome extruded aluminium. Towards the operator: a working console with 25 mm tops, cable trays and lockable storage.

The system is openly modular: 50 mm supporting side panels edged in satin-chrome aluminium, 25 mm 3d-foil worktops with cable perforations along the edges adjoining the vertical panel, carried by a 50 x 15 mm Silver epoxy steel beam — or by the storage units themselves. Las Mobili describes it as a system for compositions of great complexity and strong visual impact: from the compact counter of a professional studio to the long front line of a corporate lobby. And the central speak-through modules at 73.6 cm keep one section at desk height, where a guest can sit, sign and talk face to face.

The console behind the stage

The visitor-side counter shelf returns the scene — 25 mm wood with a satin-chrome aluminium decorative under-profile, or 12 mm tempered glass with polished edges on turned stainless-steel supports, in Satin White, rear-lacquered Black or Extra White. Below deck, bent-metal cable trays (0.7 mm, matt Black, White or Stone Grey) house electrification kits and every excess metre of cable, mounted under the top on the front panel. Storage units close with a lock — hinged door or extractable drawer with sheet-metal structure and top basket — and are always completed with a wood or tempered-glass finishing top. FAQ

How does a modular reception counter adapt to lobbies of different sizes?

By composition. Nice is built from 50 mm side panels, 25 mm worktops on a 50 x 15 mm steel beam, and storage units that can themselves carry the tops — components Las Mobili describes as designed for compositions of great complexity and strong visual impact. The same kit scales from the compact counter of a professional studio to the long front line of a corporate lobby, keeping one design language across every metre.

Wood, glass or a backlit panel: how do we choose the visitor front?

By the register the entrance has to play. The 3d-foil wood bands — Grey Elm to Bali Walnut — read warm and established; rear-lacquered glass in Black or Extra White reads sharp and formal; the white polycarbonate band with LED backlighting turns the counter into a light fixture, valuable in lobbies that live in the evening or under low light. All three are framed in the same satin-chrome aluminium, so registers can be mixed without breaking the line.

Where do the cables of a reception actually run?

Inside the counter, not across it. The worktop edges adjoining the vertical panel are perforated for cable crossing, and bent-metal cable trays — 0.7 mm sheet in matt Black, White or Stone Grey — mount under the top on the front panel, housing electrification kits and every excess metre. Phones, badge printers and screens live on the operator's side; the visitor sees only the decorative bands.

What is the 73.6 cm central module for?

It is the counter's desk-height section, declared by the manufacturer at 73.6 cm. Documents change hands there, a visitor can be welcomed seated, and conversations happen face to face rather than over a wall — while the rest of the counter keeps its height, guarding screens and paperwork from view. In one composition you get both the barrier a lobby needs and the openness a welcome deserves.

How is the operator's side organised — and can we check finishes before ordering?

Like a workstation: lockable storage units — hinged door with adjustable shelf or extractable drawer with sheet-metal structure and top basket — always closed by a wood or tempered-glass finishing top, plus cable trays under the worktop. On finishes: physical samples are available, and their cost is fully credited when the order is confirmed — so the front your visitors will judge is approved under your lobby's own light.

How to plan the reception counter your lobby deserves

For office managers and designers: five Nice decisions that make the front desk work for guests and operators alike.

Map flows and length before styles

Count visitors at peak, operator positions and the metres available: Nice composes from 50 mm side panels, 25 mm worktops and supporting storage into counters of very different lengths. Fixing the composition logic first means the front desk can grow when the lobby does.

Compose the guest-facing stage

Choose the horizontal bands — 3d-foil wood for warmth, rear-lacquered glass for formality, LED-backlit white polycarbonate for presence after dark — all framed in satin-chrome aluminium. This is the surface every visitor photographs: decide it looking at the entrance, not at the catalogue.

Engineer the operator console

Specify worktops with cable perforations, cable trays with electrification kits under the top, and lockable storage — door or extractable drawer — completed with its finishing top. Whatever the front stages, the back must run phones, badges and screens without a visible wire.

Keep one module at desk height

Plan the central speak-through module at 73.6 cm: it is where documents are signed, where a guest is welcomed seated, and where the counter opens to a face-to-face conversation without giving up privacy elsewhere.

Approve samples, then freeze the composition

3d-foil, rear-lacquered glass and satin chrome shift under every lobby's light: approve physical samples on site — their cost is fully credited at order confirmation — then lock band types, shelf material, storage layout and module sequence in writing.
