Trade terms for professionals and design studios

Most reception desks are ordered in one finish and one afterthought. Toki reverses the habit: on this modular counter by Archiutti, design Perin & Partners, the front, the overhanging raised unit, the side panels and the painted-metal storage niches are specified one by one. Archiutti orders them as separate choices - melamine, wood veneer or lacquer for the front, lacquered or metallic-painted raised unit, lacquered or metal-painted sides - so a bleached-oak front can carry a metallic-brown upper volume, or an oil-varnished American walnut top can sit between copper-toned flanks. Toki stays the same object underneath: fronts and sides in 28 mm (1.1 in) panels, an 18 mm (0.7 in) raised unit mitred at 45 degrees, a 70 cm (27.6 in) inner worktop with a cable brush on its front edge.

The reception desks arrive as linear counters from 166 to 246 cm (65.4 to 96.9 in) overall, with a side or corner raised unit, or as 90-degree corner compositions; meeting tops and a service unit complete the set. La Mercanti writes the finish schedule with you line by line, so the counter that reaches a British lobby matches the drawing, not a swatch.

FAQ

How high is the counter, and where does a seated visitor sit?
The reception body stands 105 cm (41.3 in) high with a 94 cm (37 in) overall depth; the optional meeting tops sit at 74 cm (29.1 in), 92.5 cm (36.4 in) deep, and can be placed centrally or at either end of the Toki counter.
Does the upper volume have to run the full width?
No. Besides the plain linear version, Toki is listed with a side overhanging raised unit, a corner raised unit and a double corner raised unit, so the upper volume can stop, turn or frame both ends of the same counter.
Is there a hole in the worktop for the cables?
The 70 cm (27.6 in) inner worktop carries a brush strip along its front edge for cables to slide through, and a bevelled corner lets them drop to the floor without a visible hole in the top.
Can the LED light be added later?
It is best decided at order: the kit includes the machining of the panels and the pre-assembly, with the wiring routed to the right or the left; on site only the power supply is connected to the mains, and a touch switch operates it.
Which wood veneers does Archiutti list for Toki?
Four: natural oak, cooked oak, wenge oak and American walnut. The catalogue shows the walnut and the cooked oak oil-varnished, on the front and on the worktop.

How to keep a Toki reception desk looking new in daily use

A reception counter is touched from morning to evening. These five habits keep a Toki by Archiutti in the condition it arrived in.

Sort the surfaces by material
Melamine, veneer, lacquer and painted metal on the Toki each take a different cleaner; La Mercanti hands over the list, one line per surface.
Dust the upper volume from above
The 45-degree joints of the Toki upper volume are dusted dry and then wiped damp, never into the seam.
Empty the niches, do not wipe them full
The metal niches of the Toki are emptied regularly; dust settles at the bottom where nobody sees it.
Keep the brush and the bevel clear
The cable brush on the Toki worktop collects paper dust: vacuum it monthly so the cables keep sliding.
Glass and metal last
Painted-glass tops and copper or brown metallic surfaces on the Toki get a soft cloth and no abrasives.
