An executive desk gets chosen once. An operative desk gets sat at eight hours a day, by everyone — which is why Sigma by Las Mobili, designed by Studio Si, treats the workstation as a system, not a piece of furniture. Las sums it up as a balance of lightness, sobriety and simplicity, and the engineering backs the words: legs in 35 x 35 mm square-section steel tube, 3 mm thick, joined to a load-bearing frame through moulded zama elements. The frame recesses half the thickness of the 24 mm coupled top — so the line you see is thin, and the structure you don't see is not.

The same grammar builds every desk on the floor: single operative desks, bench workstations on bridge or loop legs with fixed or sliding 25 mm tops, semi-executive desks resting on a structural service cabinet, meeting tables on cross or bridge bases. Desks aggregate to comby — desk-height storage with a cable-slotted shelf — to service cabinets and to metal bookshelves with dedicated desk-attach modules. And because the structure is epoxy-coated in six colours — White, Matt Black, Green, Ice Grey, Tobacco, Cappuccino — colour becomes a planning tool, not an afterthought.

Cables are the real furniture

Sigma routes them like infrastructure: flip-top top access with soft closing and dust brush, under-top cable trays, central bench legs with inspectable WIRE MANAGER panelling, CPU-holder modules, pop-up power towers on meeting tables that sit flush until you press them. People get their own order too: handle-less two-drawer chests with central locking and lockers with progressive-numbered cylinders plus a MASTER key. FAQ

What makes Sigma different from any other operative desk?

The section you don't see. The load-bearing frame is engineered to recess half the thickness of the top, so a 24 mm coupled worktop reads as a thin line while sitting on 35 x 35 mm steel legs, 3 mm thick, joined through moulded zama elements — the joint geometry of a machine, not of budget furniture. Studio Si designed one grammar that then builds everything: single desks, benches, semi-executive desks, meeting tables and the storage between them.

Single desks or a bench — how should we choose?

By how the team grows, not by this year's headcount. Benches on bridge or loop legs put four or six people on one shared structure and aggregate with comby storage; single desks aggregate to comby, service cabinets and metal bookshelves through dedicated brackets, so a row of singles can become a landscape later. If IT access matters, specify the sliding tops: the worktop glides open on POM sliders and the cable bay is in front of you, no crawling.

How does Sigma actually handle cables in an open space?

As infrastructure, at every scale. On the desk: flip-top top access with soft closing and a dust brush. Under it: 0.7 mm sheet-metal trays that house electrification kits. In the bench spine: central legs with optional WIRE MANAGER panelling — one fixed side, one inspectable side — plus CPU-holder modules whose Ø 80 mm grommets can be swapped for built-in sockets. On meeting tables: a pop-up tower that stays flush with the top until you press it.

Six metal colours — what do you do with Green or Tobacco in a real office?

You use them as a map. When legs, trays and top access come in White, Matt Black, Green, Ice Grey, Tobacco and Cappuccino, colour can mark teams, zones or floors without a single graphic on the wall — and the nylon levelling feet are colour-matched to the metal, so the code is coherent down to the floor. Combined with ten wood finishes, two colour decisions give a whole open space its identity.

We hot-desk. What happens to personal storage?

It gets a lock and a plan. Sigma lockers carry a mechanical bolt lock with removable cylinders in progressive numbering — all different — with a double folding key, plus one MASTER key per reference for facilities. The handle-less two-drawer chest adds central locking at the workstation. Both live inside comby compositions, so personal storage sits at desk height instead of eating floor area.

How to plan operative workstations that survive growth

For office managers and space planners: five decisions that keep a Sigma floor working from day one to year five.

Count next year's people, not this year's

Choose bench compositions where teams will grow — benches share legs and beams, so density rises without new geometry — and single desks with comby aggregation where roles need acoustic or visual separation. Because singles hook to comby, service cabinets and metal bookshelves with brackets, today's row can be recomposed later instead of replaced.

Draw the cable backbone before the furniture

Mark where power rises from the floor, then place CPU modules and WIRE MANAGER legs on those verticals. Decide which desks get top access — flip-top, soft closing, dust brush — and which only need under-top trays. On meeting tables, choose pop-up towers now: electrification is selected separately by colour and type, and retrofitting is where budgets die.

Use colour as wayfinding

Six structure colours — White, Matt Black, Green, Ice Grey, Tobacco, Cappuccino — and ten top finishes are enough to code teams or zones without signage. Keep the palette to two or three combinations per floor; the system's discipline is what makes the colour readable.

Give every person a lockable place

Hot-desking fails on storage, not on desks. Specify lockers — progressive-numbered cylinders, all different, one MASTER key per reference — inside comby compositions, and handle-less two-drawer chests with central locking where seats are assigned. Storage at desk height keeps the floor plan clean.

Approve samples, then freeze the grid

Melamine finishes and coated metal read differently under your lighting: approve physical samples on site — their cost is fully credited when the order is confirmed. Then fix in writing tops, metal colour, bench compositions, top-access positions and locker numbering, and keep the document with the order.
