What did you have in mind?

Bespoke: size, colour, finish

Two taps can look identical in a photograph and feel like different objects in the hand. The difference is the body underneath, and on Icona that body is solid brass. You register it the moment you lift one: a density that no image conveys and no marketing line can imitate.

We say this bluntly because it is the one showroom test worth trusting. Finishes photograph beautifully, proportions can be flattered by lighting, and every brochure claims the same virtues; weight cannot be staged. Beyond the hand, the collection asks to be judged on restraint. Classic reduces the archetypal tap to a cross handle and a single unhurried curve, while Deco sharpens the geometry and stops short of ornament. Designed by Vincent Van Duysen. La Mercanti puts both in front of you before anything is ordered.

FAQ

Why does a heavier tap feel better?
Because the weight comes from the body rather than the surface. A solid brass mixer sits still under the hand and the handle turns against real resistance, which is the sensation people describe as quality long before they can explain it.
Can I judge a tap from photographs?
You can judge the shape, not the object. Photography flatters proportion and finish equally well at every price level, which is why we ask clients to handle at least two mixers side by side before choosing.
What separates Classic from Deco?
Character. Classic returns to the archetypal tap and strips it back to a cross handle and a soft curve. Deco tightens the geometry and reads as more graphic in the room. Same author, two temperaments.
Is a designer tap worth it in a small bathroom?
Often more so. In a small room the tap is unavoidable and sits in the eye line at every visit, so the object carries more of the impression than the tiles do.
Does the finish change how the tap feels?
It changes how it looks and how it takes light; the feel comes from the body beneath. That is why we quote the material and the finish as two separate decisions rather than one.

How to judge a tap in a showroom

Five minutes that matter more than an afternoon of catalogues.

Lift it
Weight is the one quality that cannot be styled for a photograph.
Turn the handle
Resistance and travel tell you how the object will behave every morning.
Step back a metre
Then look again. Detail that shouts at arm's length will shout in the room.
Bring a sample of your surface
Stone, plaster and timber change a finish more than showroom light does.
Compare two, never one
La Mercanti sets the Classic and Deco handles side by side for exactly this reason.
