Trade terms for professionals and design studios

British design culture has always prized the clever detail — the object that quietly does three jobs. Dintorni ships exactly that: the Raccordo, an extruded ceramic profile in glossy Caramel or Nero (7.3×7.1×33 cm) whose datasheet declares three trades — laid one way it coves the floor-to-wall junction; rotated, it caps the top edge of a boiserie; and in that same rotation it opens a groove that works as a small shelf. Soap, spectacles, a single postcard: the trim earns its keep.

The collection around it is Inga Sempé's newest work for Mutina (2025): glazed porcelain squares of 20.5×20.5 cm in five solid colours (Verde Chiaro to Terracotta) and three patterns with Italian names — Bandiere, Dama, Scala — each in three light temperatures: Neve, Sole, Ombra. The floor numbers are serious: R11, DIN 51097 class C, DCOF 0.74, Pendulum 55 dry/45 wet — declared on the full format, patterns included — frost-proof for outside, stain class 5, V2 minimal variation. 20% recycled declared for LEED 4.1.

Where the wit works

The wit travels well — floor and wall, indoor and outdoor: washrooms and wellness floors, receptions, break areas, terraces. Datasheet and certificates download from this page.

FAQ

How does one piece of trim manage three jobs?
By geometry: the Raccordo is an extruded profile whose section works in two orientations. Laid one way, it coves the floor-to-wall junction - the hygienic curve hospitals and good kitchens love. Rotated, its return edge caps the top of a half-height boiserie; and that same return opens a groove deep enough to park soap, a razor or a postcard - the datasheet itself calls it a small shelf. Glossy Caramel or Nero against the matt field: the detail becomes the jewellery. One honest note: it is an extruded decorative profile, not a floor tile.
Are the slip numbers genuinely spa-grade?
Declared and unusually complete: R11 on the ramp test, DIN 51097 class C - the highest barefoot rating - DCOF 0.74 against the 0.42 benchmark, and Pendulum 55 dry/45 wet, all on the full 20.5 format, patterns included. That means shower floors, pool surrounds and wet rooms can carry Dama or Bandiere without downgrading to a plain safety range. Frost resistance extends the same package to terraces. Rare combination: top traction and decoration in the same tile.
What do Neve, Sole and Ombra actually change?
The light temperature of each pattern: Neve is the palest reading, Sole the warm middle, Ombra the deepest - same geometry, three moods. Practically, it lets one design language run through a building at different intensities: Neve to lift a windowless washroom, Sole to warm a break area, Ombra to ground a reception. The Isola combination shuffles patterns together, and the declared V2 minimal variation keeps large fields even and predictable - the opposite of a shaded product, and honestly declared as such.
Why the Italian names from a French designer?
It is the collection's little love letter: Inga Sempé - one of Paris's most inventive product designers, in her newest work for Mutina (2025) - named everything in the language of the factory: Bandiere (flags), Dama (draughts), Scala (ladder), Neve/Sole/Ombra (snow/sun/shade), Isola (island), Raccordo (junction). Beyond the charm there is clarity: pattern plus light names the exact reference, which makes specification and ordering pleasingly unambiguous.
What should installer and buyer know about the non-rectified format?
Two disciplines: the calibres are declared transparently (cal 0: 202.1-203.5 mm; cal 1: 203.6-205 mm) and the sheet asks that you request the calibre in advance - La Mercanti handles that at order stage; and tiles should be drawn from several boxes for tonal harmony. Then the standards: porcelain adhesive, 2 mm joint, cement or epoxy grout - fine-grain where the glossy Raccordo runs, with minimal abrasives on its polished surface. Sample costs are fully credited at order confirmation.

Three details, one profile: Dintorni in five steps

Five steps for UK architects and clients: Sempé's 2025 collection from washroom to terrace - patterns with traction, and the trim that earns its keep.

Pick pattern and light
Bandiere, Dama or Scala - then Neve to lift, Sole to warm, Ombra to ground. One geometry, three temperatures.
Field with the solids
Verde Chiaro to Terracotta anchor the patterns: solids for the big fields, pattern where the eye should rest.
Spend the traction where it pays
R11, class C, DCOF 0.74 on the full format: showers, spas, pool edges and frost-proof terraces can be decorated without compromise.
Deploy the Raccordo
Cove at the skirting, cap on the boiserie, shelf by the basin: one glossy profile (Caramel or Nero), three details resolved.
Order with calibres in hand
Non-rectified: request the calibre in advance (La Mercanti manages it), 16 pcs/box, Isola 20, Raccordo by the linear metre.
