The three I Rovereschi modern desks use one rectangular ring of brass-painted steel, 101 × 58 mm (4 × 2 1/4 in) in section and 6 mm (1/4 in) thick, and each puts it somewhere else. On Bellagio it sits at the top, between leg and undertop, so the 58 mm (2 1/4 in) top appears to hover over the risers. On Libra it sits at the foot, and the catalogue says the desk seems to hang «a thread from the ground». On Narciso the metal runs through the joints, next to a curved leg cut as a half circle. Same steel, same brass-coloured paint, three different sentences.

Stefania Tognoloni designed the three for Della Rovere's thirtieth year, and the shared parts are deliberate: smoked walnut or chocolate oak veneer with a matt, semi-closed pore finish; ivory or dark brown eco-leather; tops of 200 cm, 220 cm or 240 cm (78 3/4 in, 86 5/8 in, 94 1/2 in). Around the desk — with its external return — the same language furnishes a boardroom table, a library of low or medium bookcases and, through the Consonanze range, the staff desks along the corridor. La Mercanti's first proposal shows the ring in all three positions on the same floor plan, because that is the decision a client actually makes.

FAQ

Is Narciso really one desk, or a system?
It is a system: desk with wooden top or eco-leather tops, desk with external return, internal return with front peninsula, desk with service unit. Every version keeps the curved leg and the mandatory, load-bearing modesty panel described in the price list.
Which parts do Bellagio, Libra and Narciso share?
The 58 mm (2 1/4 in) top with 19 mm (3/4 in) veneer, the two wood finishes, the eco-leather colours and all the common elements: pedestal, service unit, coffee tables, meeting tables and bookcases. The structure is what changes between the three.
How big are the meeting tables in the same finishes?
The rectangular tables come in 340, 360 or 380 × 220 cm (133 7/8, 141 3/4 or 149 5/8 × 86 5/8 in) and keep a central channel 20 cm (7 7/8 in) deep for cables. The round one is 120 cm (47 1/4 in) across on a steel column with a brass-coloured plate.
What does the leather-effect finish refer to?
It is a particleboard panel finished to look like ivory leather, 18 mm (3/4 in) thick, offered for the modesty panel and for parts of the pedestal. It is distinct from the real eco-leather used on the tops and on the padded strips, which is a covering, not a finish.
Can the bookcases be lit?
Yes: the I Rovereschi bookcase is also made with 4 mm (5/32 in) vertically ribbed glass fixed to the back of each bay and lit by LED strips mounted under the top. Low and medium heights, two or three bays, with or without the brass-coloured rings on the inner sides.

How to compose an I Rovereschi desk from the three layouts

Desk alone, external return, internal return with peninsula or service unit: the I Rovereschi price list treats them as different items, and the room decides which.

Start from the wall behind the chair
Measure the free wall behind the seat: an I Rovereschi desk with external return needs 220 cm (86 5/8 in) of depth, the desk alone 100 cm (39 3/8 in). Write both numbers on the plan before anything else.
Decide where the second person sits
If visitors sit across the desk, the internal return with front peninsula keeps them at the end of the top. If the second surface is for the user, choose the external return on the left or right.
Choose the storage that carries the top
The service unit is fully veneered and can act as a support for the desk top: choosing it replaces one leg and adds a bay for the three-drawer pedestal.
Match the modesty panels to the layout
One panel for the desk alone, two for the version with external return. Narciso and Bellagio need them, Libra has its own glossy black panel: note the type and the height next to each desk code.
Send the sketch with the codes
La Mercanti returns a drawing with each element numbered as in the price list, so that the order confirmation and the installer's sheet describe the same desk.
