Upholstered seating rarely fails in the foam. It fails along the seams, where thousands of sittings pull at the same line of stitching. LaCividina answers with a detail you will never see on Suiseki: the seams are reinforced with a carbon fibre backing — a material associated with engineering rather than sofas, used here exactly where a contract piece is usually most vulnerable.

Around that seam sits a collection designed by Andrea Steidl in 2019: modules with organic volumes, a low wide seat, a frame declared reinforced for public areas, and high-density non-deforming foam laid at differentiated levels. Fabric versions can be supplied with removable covers, and the whole piece comes made to measure on request.

Fabric, leather, module count: the composition is tested before it is ordered. La Mercanti works it through with LaCividina and returns it as a confirmed configuration.

FAQ

What reinforces the seams?
A carbon fibre backing, declared by the manufacturer for the stitching of the collection.
Is the frame suitable for heavy public use?
It is described as reinforced for use in public areas, which is the distinction between a residential sofa and a contract one.
How is the padding built?
In fire-retardant expanded polyurethane, with a non-deforming high-density foam laid at differentiated levels rather than as a single block.
Can the covers be removed?
On request, the fabric version of the collection is supplied with removable covers.
Who designed the collection?
Andrea Steidl, in 2019.

How to judge a contract sofa before it goes into a lobby

The showroom tells you nothing about year three. Five things to check instead.

Ask about the frame first
A frame declared for public areas is a different build, not a different label.
Look at the seams
They carry the load in a lobby, and they are where an upholstered piece gives way.
Question the foam construction
One dense block behaves differently from foam laid at differentiated levels.
Check whether covers come off
Removable covers turn a replacement into a cleaning job.
Fix the specification
La Mercanti records fabric, module list and configuration in LaCividina's confirmation.
