Most modular seating asks you to imagine; Kiik asks you to count. Every frame in Arper's system declares its capacity — two, three or four units — and every element declares its appetite: a seat cushion takes one unit, the small side table takes half, the large tabletop takes two. Specifying a reception run or a lounge stops being guesswork and becomes arithmetic a facility manager can check on one line. Ichiro Iwasaki designed the collection in 2018, and the discipline of the numbers is precisely what frees the shapes.

On that grid the pieces play: cushions with standard or high backrests, corner modules for 90-degree turns, armrests and a slim seat divider, tables in five shapes — two of which work as corner connectors — consoles at three heights (58, 72 and 105 cm / 22.8, 28.3 and 41.3 in), a six-seater ottoman and USB kits for the whole family. From hotel lobbies to collaborative floors and home offices, La Mercanti supplies Kiik across the UK with fabric samples ahead of the order.

Collection: Kiik by Arper — modular system of sofas, side tables, consoles and ottoman for waiting, reception, lounge, work and common areas

Designer: Ichiro Iwasaki, 2018

Frames: three lengths — S126 (2 units; frame 92.6 × 33 × h 35 cm / 36.5 × 13 × 13.8 in; assembled 126 × 63 cm / 49.6 × 24.8 in), S189 (3 units; 155.6 cm (61.3 in) frame; 189 × 63 cm (74.4 × 24.8 in)), S252 (4 units; 218.6 cm (86.1 in) frame; 252 × 63 cm / 99.2 × 24.8 in); black powder-coated steel with legs in polished or black-coated die-cast aluminium

Unit system: seat cushion = 1 unit; small rectangular table = 0.5 unit; square table = 1 unit; large rectangular table = 2 units

Seating modules (hooked to the frames; removable covers in fabric, leather, faux leather or customer's fabric/leather): cushion 63 × 63 × h 10 cm (24.8 × 24.8 × 3.9 in); cushion with standard backrest h 40 cm (15.7 in); cushion with high backrest h 60 cm (23.6 in); right/left corner modules, standard or high, for 90° arrangements

Armrests and divider: terminal armrests right/left 60 × 8 × 30 cm (23.6 × 3.1 × 11.8 in), always at the ends next to a backrest module; middle armrest 63 × 9 × 30 cm (24.8 × 3.5 × 11.8 in) between two same-facing backrest modules; painted-MDF seat divider 59 × 1.2 × 10 cm (23.2 × 0.47 × 3.9 in) between any two modules

Side tables (black-oak or natural-oak effect laminate, 1.4 cm (0.55 in) thick): rectangular 31.5 × 63 cm (12.4 × 24.8 in) (also cantilevered via the C link), square 63 × 63 cm (24.8 × 24.8 in), rectangular 126 × 63 cm (49.6 × 24.8 in); triangular 63 × 63 × 63 cm (24.8 × 24.8 × 24.8 in) and quarter-round tables act as connectors for 90° and 120° compositions

Consoles: 252 × 40 cm (99.2 × 15.7 in), three heights — 58, 72 and 105 cm (22.8, 28.3, 41.3 in) — in black-oak or natural-oak effect laminate

Ottoman: 126 × 157.5 × h 36 cm (49.6 × 62 × 14.2 in), six seats, die-cast aluminium legs, upholstered removable cover

Links: Plate link joins two sofas or anchors the triangular table; C link supports cantilevered tables (two C links for the quarter-round at 90°); Island link couples two S189/S252 frames

Ground attachment: dedicated floor-fixing kits for sofa/ottoman frames and for consoles of any height

Electrification: USB sockets available across the whole collection — universal kit for sofas and ottomans (2 USB-A, 5 V DC, max 2.4 A) and a kit for side tables and consoles (2 units of 2 USB-A each)

Care: tops with a soft damp cloth; laminates with non-abrasive household detergents; chromed or lacquered metals rinsed and dried with a chamois, polishes not recommended; fabrics vacuumed weekly at low power; leathers never with water — specific products only, tested 24 h on a hidden area; faux leather with a damp cloth

Uses: waiting rooms and reception, work and collaborative spaces, lounge and common areas, hospitality, home office

FAQ

When is the high backrest worth specifying over the standard one?
The standard backrest rises to 40 cm (15.7 in), the high one to 60 cm (23.6 in) — the taller module gives more support and presence where people settle for longer, and both can mix on the same frame.
How many people does the ottoman actually seat?
Arper declares it a six-seater: 126 × 157.5 cm (49.6 × 62 in) of upholstered seat on die-cast aluminium legs, with no front or back — people sit facing every direction.
Can power be added after the sofas are installed?
Yes — the USB kits are accessories: a universal kit serves sofas and ottomans with two USB-A sockets at 5 V DC and up to 2.4 A, and a separate kit powers side tables and consoles.
Who designed Kiik, and when?
Ichiro Iwasaki, in 2018 — the data sheet credits him directly and points to his Tokyo studio; the collection is part of Arper's contract range.
What do the three frame sizes hold?
S126 accommodates two modules, S189 three, S252 four — each position taking a seat cushion or a table element, so the same frame length can serve pure seating or a mixed layout.

How to commission and hand over a Kiik installation

Five steps between the last screw and the first visitor, for facilities teams taking delivery of Kiik.

Walk the layout against the drawing
Check each Kiik frame, cushion and table against the approved plan before sign-off — corrections cost minutes now and meetings later.
Test every socket
Plug a device into each USB point on sofas, tables and consoles; power faults found at handover are the supplier's job, not the tenant's.
Check the anchoring
Where floor-fixing kits are specified, confirm every foot is secured — a public hall is no place for furniture that drifts.
Brief the cleaning team
Hand over the care sheet: damp cloth for tops, no polishes on metals, weekly low-power vacuum for fabrics, never water on leather.
Photograph and file
Record the finished composition with part references, so future additions to Kiik start from facts rather than memory.
