The decision that changes Kinesit most has nothing to do with its mechanism. It is the covering. Stretch mesh comes as standard: it keeps the back ventilated through a long day and reads unmistakably as a working chair. Upholster the front face in fabric or leather and the same shell goes quieter; upholster it entirely and it holds its own in a meeting room or a director's office instead of looking borrowed from the open plan.

Everything else carries over. A thin backrest with the lumbar support built inside it, controls tucked under the seat, a recline that stops where you leave it, three backrest heights, armrests fixed or 2D adjustable or absent, and a choice of bases. The covering can come from any fabric collection in Arper's catalogue, which is unusual latitude for a task chair. Designed by Lievore Altherr Molina in 2014, supplied internationally by La Mercanti with samples before the order.

FAQ

Which covering suits a full working day?
Stretch mesh, the standard version: it lets the back breathe, and that is the thing people notice at four in the afternoon rather than at ten in the morning. Fully upholstered shells make more sense where the chair is used in shorter stretches and looked at more often.
Can a mesh chair be upholstered later?
The covering is chosen at order stage, and the three options are distinct configurations rather than accessories. A floor that needs both specifies both on the same order, which is also the cheaper way to do it.
Which fabrics are available?
Any of the fabric collections in Arper's catalogue, plus leather and faux leather across the manufacturer's colours and finishes. That range is what lets the chair follow a room's palette instead of dictating it.
Does a thin backrest mean less support?
The lumbar support sits inside the frame and adjusts in height, so the thinness is a construction decision rather than a compromise. It is declared for the low and medium backrest versions.
Is the mesh version harder to keep clean?
Mesh is wiped rather than shampooed, which suits shared desks; upholstery follows the manufacturer's care instructions for the material chosen, and leather in particular should not be cleaned with water.

How to choose a covering for a task chair

Five checks that decide comfort and cleaning for the next decade.

Count the hours in the seat
Eight hours favour mesh; two hours open up the upholstered options.
Ask who cleans, and how often
A fully upholstered shell and a quick wipe-down rarely get along.
Look at the room, not the desk
A meeting room reads a mesh chair as a visitor from the open plan.
Match the fabric to what is already there
The Arper range is wide enough to follow the room's palette.
Ask for samples
La Mercanti sends fabric and leather samples before the order.
