Assembly is where furniture tells the truth about itself. se:vision, a modern desk by Sedus, goes together with four screws, and the reason is visible in the drawing: the desk is built around a single light edge that runs from the crossbar, through the joint and down the leg to the floor, so the structure is the design rather than something hidden behind it. Falk Blümler, who designed it at Sedus Stoll AG, describes the result as «the interplay of light and shadow on its edges and surfaces». The angle of the legs is freely adjustable, which is unusual at this level and means one desk covers several room layouts instead of one, in the open plan as in the office.

The family is deliberately narrow. The desk comes in five widths – 1600, 1800, 2000, 2200 and 2400 mm – across three depths, 800, 1000 and 1200, at a fixed height of 740. Cable management is built in: a fold-down tray under the top, a duct set that clips anywhere inside the crossbar, and the run down through the leg itself. Alongside it sits se:vision storage, a one- to four-section unit from 628 to 2428 mm wide that works as a free-standing credenza, beside the desk, or under the top as its support. Two things are worth settling on the layout drawing, before anything reaches La Mercanti: the leg angle, and which side the cabinet stands on.

FAQ

Why does assembly matter on a desk like this?
Because the structure and the design are the same thing here. The desk is built around one continuous edge, so it goes together with four screws rather than a hidden sub-frame — which is also what makes it straightforward to move between floors.
What does the adjustable leg angle actually do?
It lets the same desk sit differently in different rooms: the legs are not fixed at one splay, so a 2400 mm top can read as formal or relaxed without changing model. Sedus lists it as a configuration feature, not an accessory.
Which depths are available, and why do they matter twice?
800, 1000 and 1200 mm. The depth you choose is also the width of the storage element that can sit under the top, so the two decisions are taken together rather than one after the other.
Can the storage unit stand on its own?
Yes. se:vision storage works as a free-standing credenza, beside the desk or under it as the support for the top. One to four sections take it from 628 to 2428 mm wide, at 575 mm high and 636 mm deep.
What finishes does the top come in?
Nine: pure white, ice white, flint grey, stone grey, light ash, natural oak, dark ash, graphite black and black, on 19 mm MDF or on 19 and 25 mm chipboard from the Sedus surface collection.

How to configure a se:vision workstation by Sedus

Five steps that take the se:vision desk and storage from room dimensions to finishes, following what Sedus publishes for the range.

Set the depth first
800, 1000 or 1200 mm decides both the footprint in front of the door and the width of any storage element that goes under the top. Width, from 1600 to 2400 mm, follows from the wall.
Choose the configuration
Desk alone, storage alone, or the two combined with the top resting on the unit. These are three different plans for the same design, and they change the room before any finish is picked.
Pick the legs
Powder-coated aluminium, chrome, or veneer in natural walnut, natural oak or anthracite oak. On the powder-coated versions the crossbar, cover caps and cable duct can take the same shade for a single-colour reading.
Specify the top
19 mm MDF with the black 30° bevelled edge, or 19 and 25 mm chipboard from the Sedus collection; square or rounded corners, straight or shaped edge. The nine finishes match those available on the storage unit.
Close with hardware and cabling
Modesty panel in melamine, veneer, Soft Touch or Fenix; on the storage, interchangeable core key or battery RFID, push-to-open or handle. Plan the cable route: tray, crossbar duct, then down the leg.
