Codutti describes AlfaOmega as «two souls and a curved section behind the same design idea», and the price list proves it: the curved sides, 45 mm (1 3/4 in) of plywood hollowed in the centre and bevelled at the front, are identical on every desk. What changes is what covers them. Alfa dresses the curve in white or black gloss lacquer, puts 10 mm (3/8 in) tempered glass on the top and thick leather in white embossed, black embossed or carbon on the legs, with no stitching at all. Omega veneers the same curve in ebony or walnut dyed oak, lays a 45 mm (1 3/4 in) veneered top or black glass on it, and stitches the leg leather by hand in saddle stitch — or replaces it with slate stone worked like leather.

One drawing, two answers — and a return on every width —, and everything around the desk follows whichever you pick: boardroom tables that start with a six-seat round one — 120 cm across, 47 1/4 in — and end with an oval for eighteen, cabinets in six heights, the lowest 82 cm (32 1/4 in), the tallest 282 cm (111 in) with a built-in safe or fridge, bookcases with curved sides and sliding doors, the Coupè chair with its perforated leather. Inside either soul can beat Soundoffice, the stereo that plays from under the top. Codutti backs the collection with a five-year guarantee, and La Mercanti draws both souls onto the plan of a London or Manchester office before the client decides which one the curve will wear.

FAQ

How is the rounded edge of the Alfa top made?
By the union of two layers: a 10 mm (3/8 in) tempered glass surface lacquered white or black, and a 35 mm (1 3/8 in) MDF under-top lacquered in gloss. The catalogue says the rounded thickness «is produced by the union of the glass surface and the gloss-finish lacquered under-top».
What is Soundoffice, in numbers?
Loudspeakers with 20 W nominal power at 8 ohm and a 95-22,000 Hz response, housed under the top, driven by a stereo hi-fi amplifier covering 20-20,000 Hz. Calls are answered hands-free through the desk, and devices connect by 3.5 mm mini-jack or Bluetooth; the controls are touch buttons on the desk pad.
Can the extension be fitted with storage?
Yes: the independent extension takes up to four modules, each chosen between a small cabinet and a pair of drawers, and the low unit takes two. Drawers close softly, have leather-lined bottoms and, with the optional lock, a leather-covered key.
Which chair does Codutti pair with the desk?
Coupè, in an executive version with a six-position tilt and gas lift on a polished aluminium base with five 60 mm (2 3/8 in) castors, and a visitor version on fixed chrome feet or a chrome sled frame. Its backrest opening «is inspired by the seats of the glorious sports cars of the past».
Are Codutti's wood and leather perfectly uniform?
No, and the catalogue says so: the wood is a natural material, so differences in colour and grain between pieces «are considered as characteristic and distinctive markings», and thick and thin leather refract light differently. Slight irregularities in the stitching are declared as the mark of handwork.

How to write the order documentation for an AlfaOmega desk

Codutti builds each item code from letters, one finish per column: five steps that make an AlfaOmega order readable by the factory and by the installer.

Start from the line letter
Every AlfaOmega code opens with the line — Alfa or Omega — followed by the item family. Write the line first on the order, because it decides which finish columns apply.
Pick one colour per column
The price list warns: «select only one colour per column». For an AlfaOmega desk that means one glass or wood code, one lacquer code and one leather code, never two in the same column.
Write the sizes as the catalogue does
180, 210 or 240 cm (70 7/8, 82 5/8 or 94 1/2 in) for the desk, 209 to 309 cm (82 1/4 to 121 5/8 in) with the return: use the catalogue steps, not rounded figures.
List each option as its own line
Equipped extension modules, full-height back panel, vertical cable duct, Soundoffice, lock with leather key: each is a separate code and a separate line, never folded into the desk.
Ask for the confirmation with the drawing
La Mercanti returns the order confirmation with every code next to its element on the plan, so that what the factory reads and what the installer unpacks are the same desk.
