Raw Edges: two RCA graduates who never left East London

Mutina ceramics by design duo Raw Edges in an office reception

The Royal College of Art class of 2007 produced plenty of names; few stayed put. Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay graduated, founded Raw Edges the same year, and have run it from East London ever since — a couple in life and in work, Israeli by birth, British by studio address. Their language is colour, pattern and movement: utilitarian design that keeps its sense of play, which is exactly why Louis Vuitton, Vitra, Stella McCartney and Kvadrat keep calling, and why the MoMA keeps their work.

On La Mercanti their hand shows up underfoot: Mutina brought them into its authored stoneware, and we place those ceramics where a British office wants wit without noise.
