In most glass desks the glass is a surface: a top, resting on something else that does the work — a beam, a trestle, a pair of metal cheeks. On Rialto by FIAM Italia there is no something else. The 15 mm curved glass turns down at both ends and reaches the floor, and that turn is what carries the load. The manufacturer states 100 kg on the top.
It is a small shift with large consequences for the room — and what makes it a designer desk rather than a glass table. Because nothing is fixed to anything, there is no visible joint at eye level, no metal to specify, no finish to match. What you choose is the glass itself — Standard or Extralight — and, if you want it, a strip of polished aluminium.
The same move is repeated across the collection at different scales: the L-shaped desk with a drawer unit, the wall-mounted version, the island with a lower service top, the drawer unit on castors and the shelves. The design is credited to CRS Fiam, and the model is registered.
