Italian glassmakers have a word of their own for what they do: not vetro, but cristallo. It is the term Gallotti & Radice uses for the Air Desk, and the choice is not vanity — it names a different level of ambition for clarity and finish. Here the word becomes a working designer desk: 12 mm tempered crystal, drawn by Pinuccio Borgonovo in 2008, in transparent, extralight or grigio Italia tones, standing on crystal sides with a metal beam.
The top can stay bare, take back-painted colour — an executive finish in itself — from the sample range in gloss or satin, or wear leather-effect laminated crystal; the metal parts run from polished stainless steel to embossed black. The family continues with the Air Desk 1, resting on the Air Unit storage system, and the taller Air Up versions of 2011. La Mercanti quotes the Air Desk to offices that ask for design with a precise pedigree — and it starts by teaching clients the right word for it.
