Plenty of stools use circles as decoration. MAK puts them to work. The backrest is a ring, the footrest is a ring, the seat is a disc — three perfectly proportioned hoops, each with a job to do, balanced around a single load-bearing stem. Nothing on this stool is a flourish: what looks like a game of rings is actually the entire functional programme of a bar stool, drawn by Patrick Norguet for Lapalma in 2012.
The engineering follows the same clarity. Frame and base come in powder-coated steel — eight declared colours, from pistachio to dove grey — while the seat is MDF padded with flame-retardant polyurethane foam and upholstered in fabric, leather or eco-leather. The stool swivels and adjusts in height from 55 to 80 cm (21.7 to 31.5 in), and the sheet declares testing to EN 1728:2012 and EN 16139:2013 at L2 extreme.
Lapalma places it around kitchens and in café halls, where it adds character to the setting. For British projects, La Mercanti specifies MAK where a counter needs seating that reads as design from every side — tearooms, breakout bars, client-facing kitchens.
