Most conference chairs make you choose a fabric. Cut by Lapalma makes you choose a philosophy. Francesco Rota drew the 2013 original around two elements the factory describes as opposites — rigid plastic and soft textile — and the catalogue offers both readings: padding on the inside only, so the white or black Baydur shell keeps its knife-sharp edge on show, or total upholstery, where colour and weave wrap every surface and the shell disappears under the cloth. Same shape, two temperatures: graphic and architectural in the first case, tactile and domestic in the second.
Whichever side you take, the range runs deep: nine catalogued versions, from steel sled to solid wood legs, four-star and five-star bases, castor versions fixed or height-adjustable, and a swatch card spanning four fabric categories plus leather and eco-leather. Dimensions stay constant at 55 by 51 by 73 centimetres on fixed bases, so a mixed specification still reads as one family.
La Mercanti supplies Cut across the UK with Lapalma's official documentation — philosophy, version and covering agreed before production, in writing.

Specifiers usually shortlist the swivel bases — solid wood, four-star, or column — because the chair returns to the table's geometry visually; all keep the same 55 by 51 cm footprint and 46 cm seat.
Rigid Baydur® polyurethane in white or black, both flame-retardant, over a seat and back padded in expanded polyurethane — the sharp edge is structural, not applied.
The card spans four price categories with names contract designers know — Hallingdal, Steelcut Trio, Remix, Divina, Blazer, Main Line Flax among them — plus Soft-leather hide and Valencia eco-leather.
Yes: Lapalma declares EN 1728:2012 6.17 and EN 16139:2013 level L2 on the wood swivel version S147-148 and on the high adjustable S188-189, alongside the 1 IM fire test with Steelcut and Remix on every version.
Every Cut is made to order in Italy; La Mercanti confirms production and delivery dates in writing with the order confirmation and coordinates shipping to your floor.
A chair is specified by the centimetres around it. Five steps with a tape measure before the order form.
Allow at least 60 cm of table edge per Cut; its 55 cm width needs air on both sides to keep elbows free.
Measure 80 cm behind the table edge so each Cut can slide back and let a guest stand without gymnastics.
With the seat at 46 cm, verify roughly 27-30 cm to the tabletop underside; aprons and beams eat into knee room.
Keep a metre of clear passage behind occupied chairs where waiters or colleagues walk.
Mark the table and the Cut footprints with tape and walk the room before confirming quantities.
