Most conference chairs are assembled from parts: a seat, a back, a joint between them. The Stick Chair is not. Seat and back are one single flexible sheet of elastic material, tensioned in suspension on the perimeter frame — which is why the profile has no break in it, and why the chair carries a body without a moulded cushion telling it where to sit. The frame does the work: side elements fixed to die-cast aluminium cross members, rigid enough to hold its shape under considerable stress while acting as the tensioner itself.

That sheet comes in three characters. Mesh, for full air circulation. Fabric or leather, sandwich-moulded around a high-strength technical layer between two layers of flexible polyurethane. Low back or high back, with or without arms, on a four or five-star base. ICF builds the same collection for task use at a screen, for executive rooms, for visitor and public areas and for training spaces, on sled, cantilever, four-leg and stool bases. La Mercanti specifies it around tables where twelve identical chairs have to look intentional.

Three series: in the ICF price list 05/2026: STK with a plastic backrest support, on skid base and stool only; ATK with an aluminium backrest support and a single membrane in mesh, fabric or leather; ETK with an aluminium frame and seat and backrest padded in polyurethane foam, upholstered in fabric, leather or Premium Leather; in the ETK series the seat height is one centimetre higher
Footprint: 49 cm (19.3 in) wide without arms, 60 cm (23.6 in) with arms; 47 cm (18.5 in) deep
Seat height: 50 cm (19.7 in) on fixed-height versions, 47-57 cm (18.5-22.4 in) on height-adjustable ones, 45-55 cm (17.7-21.7 in) on those with the tilting mechanism (ATK series); 51, 48-58 and 46-56 cm (20.1, 18.9-22.8 and 18.1-22 in) in the ETK series
Overall height: 88 cm (34.6 in) with a low back at fixed height, 85-95 cm (33.5-37.4 in) adjustable, 84-94 cm (33.1-37 in) with tilt; 99 cm (39 in) with a high back at fixed height, 96-106 cm (37.8-41.7 in) on adjustable and tilting versions
Codes: ATK.201, 221, 252 and 272 (swivel, fixed height, auto-return mechanism) · ATK.101, 121, 152 and 172 (swivel, height-adjustable) · ATK.301T, 321T, 352T and 372T (swivel, height-adjustable, with tilting mechanism); the ETK series follows the same numbering
Frame: side elements fixed to cross members in die-cast aluminium; the resulting frame is a rigid construction that holds its shape even under considerable stress and at the same time supports the mesh suspension and the fabric or leather padding. Low or high back, three finishes: polished, chrome or painted
Seat and back: a single flexible sheet of elastic material, tensioned in suspension on the perimeter structure
Mesh: single-colour nylon mesh (75% vinyl resin, 25% polyester) or two-colour elastic mesh (70% polyester elastomer, 30% polyester); it allows full breathability and air circulation
Fabric and leather: the sheet is sandwich-moulded, with a central layer of high-strength technical material between two layers of flexible polyurethane; leather upholstery has a leather-look back in predetermined colour combinations
Armrests: open in shape, die-cast aluminium with a finish matching the frame and an optional plastic cover; they can be removed and replaced on site. Also available without armrests
Auto-return swivel mechanism: not height-adjustable, it lets the seat swivel freely and brings it back to the front-facing position on its own, keeping the chairs around the table aligned; it is standard on four-star base models
Height adjustment: pneumatic unit with a lever, maximum travel 10 cm (3.9 in); gas lift compliant with EN 16955:2017
Tilting mechanism: the seat pivot point sits well forward of the gas column axis to reduce pressure on the legs; movement up to 16°; the side knob adjusts the balance spring tension to the user’s weight and sitting style; the lever controls combine height adjustment with locking and unlocking the tilt
Base: four or five-star, die-cast aluminium, chrome, polished or painted to match the frame; available with castors or glides
Castors: black plastic, Ø 50 mm (2 in), with a soft central element for any type of floor and a safety brake compliant with EN 12529:2001; top cover in chromed zamak or black plastic matching the base
Glides: black nylon floor glides, Ø 37 mm (1.5 in), with a soft rubber central element

FAQ

What holds the sitter, if there is no cushion?
Tension. Seat and back are one flexible sheet stretched across the perimeter frame, so the surface gives where weight is applied and returns when it is removed. The frame is built to stay rigid under considerable stress, which is what keeps that tension constant.
How is that sheet made when it is not mesh?
It is sandwich-moulded: a central layer of high-strength technical material between two layers of flexible polyurethane, then covered in fabric or leather. The thickness stays the same — what changes is the surface, not the build.
How much room does one chair need at the table?
49 cm across without armrests, 60 cm with them, and 47 cm deep. That difference is worth checking before ordering: it decides how many seats fit along a given table length.
Which back height belongs in a boardroom?
The low back stops at 88 cm overall and keeps sightlines open across the table; the high back reaches 99 cm in the fixed-height version and supports the shoulders through long sessions. Both share the same footprint.
Is the frame finish the same as the base?
It can be: frame, base and armrests are all die-cast aluminium and can be specified polished, chrome or powder coated in the same colour, so the chair reads as one piece rather than as assembled parts.
