A 6 cm executive top looks like a slab of timber. It is not. On Royal the top is a hollow-core panel: edges and crosspieces in solid beechwood, a honeycomb board core, and faces in particleboard, either veneered — amber walnut as standard — or covered in saddle leather. That construction is why a 280 cm desk can carry visual depth without becoming a mass that two people cannot move, and why the edge stays true along its whole run.

The rest follows the same logic of stated substance. Legs are curved poplar plywood, covered in saddle leather or in quilted leather; handles, base details and the lower leg profile are steel in a champagne finish. Tops come in 240, 260 and 280 cm by 120 deep, and the desk can be specified for two legs or for one. Designed by Umberto Asnago in 2025, Royal reaches international projects through La Mercanti, with drawings and datasheets available before anyone commits to a layout.

FAQ

Is the 6 cm top solid wood all the way through?
No, and the maker says so plainly. It is a hollow-core panel: edges and crosspieces in solid beechwood, a honeycomb board core, and particleboard faces that are veneered or covered in saddle leather. The result is a top with real visual depth and a weight that installation crews can actually handle.
Does that construction change how the desk should be treated?
In daily use, no: the working surface is veneer or saddle leather, and it is cared for like any fine surface. It matters at the specification stage, because the panel build explains why a 280 cm run stays flat and why the edge profile is uniform along its whole length.
Which parts are finished in champagne?
The steel handles, the lower profile of the leg, the base and connecting details, and the lacquered MDF spacer under the cabinets. It is the one metal tone in the collection, so it reads as a thread rather than as an accent.
Can the desk be specified without a second leg?
Yes. Royal is produced in versions prepared for two legs and in versions prepared for one, where a pedestal or the sideboard cabinet carries the other end. The choice affects the footprint, so it belongs in the plan before the size is fixed.
What documentation can be supplied for a specification?
Datasheets and drawings are downloadable directly from the product page. Requirements tied to a specific project or tender are confirmed case by case on the manufacturer's documentation, and delivery times are confirmed in writing at order confirmation.

How to specify the Royal executive desk

Five steps from panel construction to the champagne details, in the order a specifier actually needs them.

Read the panel build first
Solid beech edges, honeycomb core, veneered or leather faces. Knowing what the top is made of settles most questions about weight, flatness and edge detail before they are asked.
Pick the surface material
Veneer, saddle leather or leather. Saddle leather takes stitching, leather takes quilting; the two produce very different rooms from the same drawing.
Choose two legs or one
The one-leg version transfers support to a pedestal or the sideboard cabinet. It is a layout decision, not a styling one, and it changes circulation around the desk.
Size against the room
240, 260 or 280 cm by 120 deep, 75 cm high. Leave the guest side and the passage behind the chair on the drawing before choosing the length.
Confirm finishes on samples
Amber walnut and dark brown rosewood type are the standard veneers, both at 20 gloss. La Mercanti supplies samples so the wood and the leather are judged together, in the light of the actual room.
