Most seating for waiting areas begins with a frame: pieces of timber or steel joined together, then covered until the joints disappear. Sella begins with a mould. The back is a single shell of rigid Baydur® CSP polyurethane, formed in one operation, and the seat is a steel tube frame webbed with elastic polypropylene and natural latex belts. Nothing is hidden by the upholstery, because the shape already exists before the upholstery arrives – which is why the profile stays that thin along the arm and still holds its line after a few thousand visitors.

What sits on top of the shell is soft: contoured sheets of CFC-free foam, polyester wadding, bonded plush, and leather or fabric over all of it. The collection runs from the lounge armchair, 87 × 74 cm (34″ × 29″), to the two-seater at 147 cm (57″), and continues into swivel office versions – the executive chair, the conference chair and the tub – plus three low tables. Ludovica+Roberto Palomba signed it in 2024. La Mercanti quotes the whole set from one drawing and delivers it assembled.

FAQ

How wide is the two-seater sofa?
One hundred and forty-seven centimetres (57″), 74 cm deep (29″) and 73 cm high (28″), with the seat at 40 cm (15″). The lounge armchair shares the same depth and height.
What are the three table tops made of?
Lacquered MDF matched to any leather colour, calacatta gold marble, or veined black walnut in a 0 gloss finish. The lower top always follows the leather on the sides.
Can the office chairs be adjusted?
Yes: the executive, conference and tub versions swivel, tilt and rise on a gas lift, within the range the manufacturer publishes for each one.
How many leather lines are available?
Four, listed by the manufacturer for this collection: Privilege, Harmonie, Luxe and Atelier. Fabric is offered on the sofa and the lounge armchair.
How much wall does a sofa and two armchairs need?
Roughly 147 cm for the sofa and 87 for each armchair, plus the gap you choose between them: the figures are published, the spacing is a planning decision.

How to lay out a waiting area around Sella

Five steps from the empty plan to the finished arrangement, using the dimensions i 4 Mariani publishes for Sella.

Start from the longest wall
Put the 147 cm Sella sofa where the eye lands first when the door opens, and keep it clear of the swing of that door.
Face it, do not flank it
Two Sella lounge armchairs opposite the sofa make a conversation; the same two beside it make a queue. Ninety degrees is the compromise that works in narrow rooms.
Leave the walking line
People arrive with coats and bags: keep an uninterrupted route from the entrance to the desk that never passes between two occupied seats.
Place the tables last
The 45 cm one belongs at the side of a Sella armchair, the 80 and the 100 in front of the sofa. Each height answers a different reach.
Check the view from the door
Sit in the Sella armchair furthest from the entrance and look back: whatever you see from there is what every visitor sees first.
