Making beauty accessible is a harder brief than it sounds

Dondoli & Pocci, founders of the Archirivolto Design studio

Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci describe their mission in four words: making beauty accessible. It sounds modest until you try it — designing something genuinely good that also has to be affordable, repeatable and sold in volume leaves nowhere to hide.

The two founded Archirivolto Design in 1983 in Colle di Val d'Elsa, in the province of Siena, and narrowed their practice to seating: chairs, sofas, stools, office and outdoor. For S•CAB they signed the Mentha collection, part of the workspace range supplied by La Mercanti.

Their own condition for a project says the rest: creativity must keep an eye on whether the piece can actually be sold at scale.
