One chair, three awards in four years: CMP's Malmö

Cazzaniga Mandelli Pagliarulo, the CMP trio behind Pedrali seating

Juries rarely agree three times about the same object, and almost never in three different countries. It happened to Cazzaniga Mandelli Pagliarulo: one of their armchairs, Malmö, took the Chicago Athenaeum Good Design Award in 2012, the Red Dot in 2013 and a German Design Award special mention in 2015. The three met at the Politecnico di Milano and signed as CMP from 2010 to 2025; their stated method is to materialise visual connections between objects of the past, objects of popular culture and natural elements, then simplify them through a three-way conversation until a concept becomes plain and timeless.

The same signature runs through Nolita, Folk, Osaka and Nym for Pedrali. La Mercanti specifies them where a chair has to survive a decade of daily use and still look deliberate.
