Twenty-four leathers, each with an Italian name: the Altagamma desk by Estel

Trade terms for professionals and design studios
Bianco, Oyster, Cognac, Marsala, Fango, Grigio Salvia, Oceano, Nero. Estel’s sample book lists twenty-four Pelle Soft colours for Altagamma, and each keeps its Italian name on the swatch. The leather dresses the top, the modesty panel and the typing return of the Life version; Estel’s Product Care adds that it comes from Italian tanneries and is cleaned with a dry cloth, never water.
Under the leather the desk is a frame: legs of aluminium, 11 cm (4⅜ in) in profile, 15 mm (⅝ in) thick, finished in pewter quartz, matt bronze or steel-anodised aluminium. Between them the modesty panel, finished like the top, holds the cable compartment. Among designer desks, this one carries a single finish across top and modesty panel, the side the visitor faces: design Estel R&D, no outside signature.
Room by room, the collection follows the leather. In the office: the 75 cm (29½ in) fixed desk, 180 to 240 cm (70⅞ to 94½ in) long; the version with a service unit in a corner layout; and Altagamma Life, whose surface climbs to 125 cm (49¼ in). In the boardroom: the meeting desk, leather in the centre and clear glass at the sides, then conference tables up to 600 cm (236¼ in). In the executive suite, drawer units and H87 cabinets close the set.
La Mercanti puts the Italian name of the leather on the quotation line, exactly as Estel’s sample book spells it, so the colour survives the translation.

FAQ
Three Schuko sockets and then what: which power modules fit Altagamma?
Four, all black, all with an interlocked 220 V connector. Tipo 1 (GC030) carries three Schuko sockets and two RJ45 cat. 6 ports for data and telephone; Tipo 2 (GC032) adds two 5 V USB chargers; Tipo 3 (GC034) swaps those for an HDMI coupler and a USB coupler; Tipo 4 (GC036) pairs three Schuko with two USB chargers. One restriction is printed in the price list: Tipo 2 and Tipo 3 are not available for the service unit, so a desk with the cabinet takes Tipo 1 or Tipo 4.
A fifth castor on a drawer unit: what is it for on Altagamma?
It belongs to GA381, the drawer unit that pairs a drawer with a deep drawer for files and objects: the price list adds that this deep drawer is fitted with a fifth castor. Its sibling GA380 carries three drawers and no extra wheel. Both units are 66 × 47 × 58 cm (26 × 18½ × 22⅞ in), roll on castors and open with a recessed grip whose back is brushed steel; the finishes follow the desk, from veneer to the leathers. Estel names the fifth castor and the code tells the two units apart.
Does the Altagamma conference table come with a cable port as standard?
Yes, on the tables with a veneered, ecoleather or leather top: the price list writes that the cable port is standard there, round or square, and not available on the glass tops. On the rectangular and octagonal tables the cabling has a second route, the double-sided top access, again excluded on clear glass. On the round and square tables the port is the only cable route the price list shows for those two shapes.
Where in Italy is Altagamma manufactured?
In Thiene, Vicenza province, where Estel Group has its address at Via S. Rosa 70 and signs the design as Estel R&D, with no outside designer on the drawing. The three documents published for the collection all come from there: the technical data of the price list Executive & Common Area, the catalogue with the room settings and the Product Care manual on cleaning.
When the Altagamma top rises to standing height, does its cabinet follow?
No. On GAZ10 and GAZ14 the writing surface travels between 75 and 125 cm (29½ and 49¼ in); the service unit alongside stays at its 57 cm (22½ in) height, exactly as on the fixed version. Nor does the footprint change: 210 × 170 cm (82⅝ × 66⅞ in) overall. On this version too the price list puts the unit, its side panels and the modesty panel in veneer, whatever the top is dressed in.
Caring for the glass top and aluminium frame of Altagamma, as Estel writes it
Estel’s Product Care manual has a page for glass and one for anodised aluminium. Five steps take the two materials of an Altagamma desk from the daily wipe to the sanitising round, without a product the maker rules out.
Wipe the glass while damp
The clear glass top of Altagamma is cleaned with a clean, soft, damp cloth, a sponge or a chamois leather. For heavier dirt and fingerprints Estel allows a neutral detergent or an ordinary glass cleaner. Two things stay in the cupboard: solvents and steel wool.
Sanitise with alcohol, then rinse
The glass resists household sanitisers based on alcohol; after them, a rinse with a damp cloth. What the manual excludes is as clear: no abrasives, no bleach, no acids and no spray aimed straight at the surface, which is where the cloth should receive the product instead.
Respect the limit of the glass
Estel states that the load capacity of its glass products is limited and asks not to pile excessive weight on the top. A scratch from a pointed object can lead to a later breakage, so dust is removed with a soft cloth. The manual also warns that no glass is entirely clear: a few bubbles and a green tint that varies from sheet to sheet with the thickness are part of the material.
Keep acids off the aluminium
The legs of the frame are anodised: the natural oxide layer has been thickened to protect the surface from dirt and wear. Acids, alkaline products, lemon juice and similar substances attack that layer. The routine: soft cloth plus neutral household detergent, then a dry cloth passed with even movements; stubborn marks take a solvent-free product, tried first on a hidden part.
Disinfect the frame at 70%
For sanitising the aluminium, Estel indicates alcohol at 70% applied with a soft cloth and followed by a rinse with a damp one. Everyday dust is lifted with a soft cloth, pointed objects scratch the finish, and anything hot or wet left on the metal damages it, exactly as on the veneer.
