Press the seat of Qubik and you meet two paddings, not one. The first belongs to the frame: polyurethane foam in differentiated densities, wrapped in a black technical fabric. The second lives inside the cover and gives each rounded cube its own crown. Flexteam builds it that way so that the support stays in the structure while the shape stays in the upholstery, and the cover can come off without taking the comfort with it.

For visitor and reception chairs that must look composed from the first appointment of the day to the last, that split is the point. Designed by Carlo Tomaso, Qubik is 107 cm (42.1 in) deep and 80 cm (31.5 in) high, its seat 42 cm (16.5 in) off the floor, its arms 65 cm (25.6 in) up. It sits among our lounge sofas, and, like any modular sofa, you buy it one piece at a time.

Straight sofas run from 153 cm (60.2 in) to 294 cm (115.7 in). Around them sit end pieces with the arm left or right, armless centre units, a 147 × 201 cm (57.9 × 79.1 in) end unit, poufs in two sizes, seats without a back, a chaise longue and a side table in black ash, for a lobby, a breakout area or a living room at home. La Mercanti marks on every quote line whether a piece goes in fabric or in leather.

FAQ

Which way can the arm go on the end pieces?

Either side. The one-arm elements come with the arm on the left or the right in 150, 197, 244 and 291 cm (59.1, 77.6, 96.1 and 114.6 in), so a run can close against a wall or a door.

What does Qubik stand on?

On anthracite ABS feet 5 cm (2 in) high, short enough that the sofa reads as a single low block.

Which covers appear in the Flexteam photographs?

England 229 leather (category 20), Tiepolo 10 fabric (category D) and Gritti 1 fabric (category F): the three the catalogue chose to show Qubik in.

Is a fire classification given for public waiting areas?

The Flexteam technical sheet does not state one. Where a specification asks for a particular classification, it is checked against the manufacturer’s documentation for that project before the order.

How large is a single backrest?

98 × 38 × 76 cm (38.6 × 15 × 29.9 in). Backs and arms are separate components, fixed to the seat by brackets that stay visible.

How to write a Qubik order line by line

A Qubik composition is a list of separate elements. Five steps to turn a floor plan into order lines that leave nothing to interpretation.

Name each Qubik element

Write one line per Qubik element: sofa, one-arm element, centre unit, maxi centre unit, end unit, chaise longue, pouf, backless seat or side table.

Add the width in centimetres

Sofas are 153, 200, 247 or 294 cm (60.2, 78.7, 97.2 or 115.7 in); centre units 147 to 288 cm (57.9 to 113.4 in). The width identifies the element.

State the arm side

One-arm elements and the WIDE chaise longue come left or right. Read the side as you face the sofa and write it on the line.

Choose fabric or leather for each line

The fabric cover comes off for the wash; leather stays on. Add the cover name and its category next to each element.

Close with the side table

If the plan includes it, add the 70 × 44 cm (27.6 × 17.3 in) side table in black ash as a separate line.
