Certificates usually describe a product by its standard. The Quality Office seal for the se:air describes it by its rooms: certificate 9.236, issued in Wiesbaden on 10 May 2024 and valid until 9 May 2027, is titled «swivel chairs for communication areas and working from home». That is the brief Sedus gave this chair. Hybrid work moved the office chair out of the assigned desk and into project rooms, seminar rooms, hot-desking floors and spare bedrooms, and the seal says so on the first line.
What earns the title is a task office chair that asks nothing of the person sitting down. Kinetic Swing, a patented mechanism, senses how heavy the sitter is and tunes the backrest to match; what is left to the hand is height and lock. Seat and back share a single knitted textile stretched over a polyamide frame, seamless from every angle, so the chair counts as a genuine mesh office chair wherever you stand and comes in, by Sedus' own round figure, at 12 kg. The 4D armrests adjust in height and let their pads float; a height-adjustable lumbar support is optional, in the colour of the model.
Sedus Design Team's Konstantin Thomas drew it in five monochrome colours: black, clear white, ruby red, sage green and midnight blue, frame to castors. High benches get the counter build, on an aluminium base with a footring; specifications that call for fire retardancy get code 6044, black membrane only. In meeting rooms and seminar rooms it takes the place of the visitor chair, which this range does not have. La Mercanti puts the certificate title into the client's home-working policy, where a chair specified for working from home needs a document behind it.

The Kinetic Swing measures the load when you sit down and sets the backrest resistance to match: the heavier the user, the more the back pushes back. Sedus holds the patent on the mechanism. The backrest opens with a slight sideways give as you move, and none of it needs a knob. The only manual settings on the chair are the seat height and the lock.
Sedus rounds it to 12 kg in the brochure. The environmental product information gives the precise figure for the reference configuration, which does include the height-adjustable lumbar support: 11.83 kg (26.1 lb) without packaging. Of that, 7.75 kg is polyamide 6.6 and 1.46 kg is steel, which is why a chair this size can be carried in one hand.
Black is the standard model colour: frame, armrests, base, castors and membrane all black, with black armrest pads. The other four colours, clear white, ruby red, sage green and midnight blue, are listed as options and change every plastic part at once. On the white chair the membrane is silver grey; on the others it matches the frame.
Only in the membrane: code 6044 is available with the black M2A membrane alone, so a fire-retardant se:air is a black-membrane chair, on any model colour. The price list ties the version to the UNI class 1.IM fire-protection standard. Everything else, mechanism, armrests and base, stays as specified.
Sedus declares a 5-year guarantee under its warranty terms and a guaranteed repairability of 10 years, both stated in the environmental product information. The same document lists the design choices that make repair possible: covers not glued into place and components that dismantle with material identification. The membrane itself is the one part replaced only at the factory.
The se:air has one slider for the backrest and no tension knob: the mechanism sets the resistance. Five moves, taken from Sedus' own user guide, starting with the back unloaded.
