Two lines on the Quinti list, a seat and an armrest: Tokyo, the modular armchair that takes two codes

Open the Lounge Collection pages of the Quinti price list at Tokyo and the whole series fits in two lines. One is QX090000100, a seat with its back, 90 cm wide and 100 cm deep. The other is QX0900BR000, an armrest 20 cm wide at the same depth. No third code follows: no table, no pouf, no corner. Set that page beside the lounge sofas we offer and the difference is on the paper: two codes, two lines, and every figure the sheet needs. Design Gualtiero Sacchi.
Both pieces are made entirely of cold-foamed polyurethane, at a density Quinti describes as suited to comfort; the data sheet declares no frame beneath the cover, no timber and no metal. Seat and armrest share one declared height, 73 cm, and broad, rounded vertical sections give each element its soft outline.
Counted by seats, the two codes do what a longer list would. One seat between two armrests is an armchair that stands alone. Several seats with an armrest at each end make a sofa in a row; the data sheet photographs four. An armrest between every seat turns the same row into separate places for people who arrive one at a time, which we place beside reception seating for visitors. Quinti adds that the modules travel easily and can be dismantled and reassembled.
La Mercanti checks the quantity against each of the two codes before anything is confirmed.

FAQ
What is Ecopelle Soul, the faux leather listed for Tokyo?
A category 3 covering on the Quinti card, one column above the plain Ecopelle of category 2. It has a 100% polyurethane surface on a backing the sheet prints as 85% polyester and 17% cotton, with EN 1021-1 and BS 5852 part 1 behind it, the one British standard named on the Quinti sheet, and more than 100,000 abrasion cycles to EN ISO 5470-2. The plain Ecopelle is 83% PVC with 17% synthetic fibre. On Tokyo both are ordered by name, Soul in the category 3 column, and the difference shows on the paperwork before it shows on the seat.
Are there Quinti coverings that cannot be ordered on this series?
Five, and the price list names them in its materials table: Crepè, Laser, Melange, Horo and Pelle in category 6. For Tokyo those boxes are marked not feasible, while every other covering on the card can be specified. Leather is where the distinction matters most: Pelle is available in category 5, and the category 6 version is not. We compare the requested name with those five before a sample is shown, so no order carries a covering Quinti has already excluded.
How should a leather-covered Tokyo be cleaned?
With a white cloth moistened with water only, which is the first and last everyday instruction on the Quinti data sheet. For anything more, the sheet allows quality products made for leather, applied as their own manufacturer directs, and asks for a trial on a hidden part of the seat or armrest with a wait of at least 24 hours before judging it. Leather, Quinti adds, is a delicate material. For fabrics the rule is shorter: consult the fabric sheet of the colour card and watch for cuts and tears.
What packed volume should a goods lift or a van allow for?
The Quinti price list prints a volume for each element: 0.70 m³ for the seat with its back and 0.20 m³ for the armrest. A row is therefore costed as so many seats and so many armrests, never as one sofa. The same list gives the weights to go with the volumes, 30 kg for the seat and 8 kg for the armrest, so a delivery is planned on four printed figures and nothing estimated.
Is the armrest lower than the backrest on Tokyo?
No. The data sheet gives the seat with its back a total height of 73 cm and gives the armrest exactly the same figure, so a composition keeps one top edge from the first element to the last. The armrest matches the seat in depth as well, at 100 cm, and only its width is different, 20 cm against 90. The data sheet describes the armrest as the element that completes a composition, and the equal height is what the two armchairs on its first page show: seat, back and arms finishing together.
How to build a waiting row with Tokyo by Quinti, seat by seat
Tokyo has one seat and one armrest, and a waiting row is made of nothing else. Five steps drawn from the Quinti data sheet, from the width of a seat to the covering class meant for public spaces.
Start from the 90 cm seat
Every place in a Tokyo row is the seat QX090000100, 90 cm wide and 100 cm deep. Each seat is one place: the price list has no other seating element for the series, no corner, no centre unit of another width, so the row is counted in seats of 90 cm and in nothing else.
Close both ends with an armrest
The armrest QX0900BR000 is 20 cm wide, as deep as the seat and as tall. The Quinti sheet describes it as the element that completes a composition, and one at each end gives the row two finished flanks. The row of four on the first page of the data sheet is closed exactly this way, an armrest on the left and one on the right.
Separate the places where needed
The same armrest can also be placed between two seats; the data sheet gives it both roles. In a waiting room this turns a shared sofa into a line of separate places. When separation is wanted, one armrest per gap goes onto the list, in addition to the two at the ends.
Check the photographed row
Page one of the Tokyo data sheet photographs a composition of four seats with an armrest at either end, beside two armchairs each made of one seat and two armrests. Use it as the reference picture when the row is described to the client: it is the maker’s own arrangement, with the broad, rounded vertical sections of the sheet repeated from seat to seat.
Ask for the IM covering
Besides the five numbered covering categories, Quinti prices Tokyo in an IM category as well, the one tied to the Italian 1IM approval. For a waiting area open to the public, tell La Mercanti so: we quote the row in that category, the covering is still chosen by name from the Quinti card, and the five materials Quinti rules out for the series stay off the order.
