Hella Jongerius filled London's Design Museum with breathing colour

Diarama stoneware by Hella Jongerius for Mutina in an office reception

London has seen her thesis in person: Breathing Colour, the installation at the Design Museum where Hella Jongerius showed what she means when she calls colour a material — tones that change with the day's light instead of sitting still. Dutch, born in Utrecht, running Jongeriuslab since 1993, she has been Vitra's art director for colours and materials since 2007, dressed KLM cabins and, with Rem Koolhaas, the UN delegates' lounge in New York.

In 2018 Mutina brought that eye into stoneware with Diarama — a collection La Mercanti places where British offices want colour that behaves like a material, not a coat of paint.
