Most continental office chairs arrive in Britain without a word about the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations. se:flair is listed by Sedus with a version written for this market: a fire-protection build to FFFSR for domestic use, available with the Fame cover fabric, a 95 % virgin wool cloth from the Sedus collection. It matters because this is a chair that Sedus expects to leave the office and go home, and a swivel chair in a home office falls under domestic furniture rules.
Among meeting room chairs it reads like a shell armchair: the high back wraps the body, the armrests sit inside the frame under the knitted membrane, and the seat is upholstered in membrane or in a fabric of your choice, in one colour or two. The Kinetic-Swing mechanism takes its tension from the sitter, not from a knob, and opens to 21°. In a boardroom on glides it turns 360° without rolling; at a desk on castors it becomes a breathable mesh-backed chair (2.0 in / 50 mm seat padding, 15.7-20.1 in / 400-510 mm seat height).
Three versions, sorted by the room they were drawn for. Castors, on the polyamide five-star base, make the task and home-office chair; plastic or felt glides, on the aluminium four-star base, make the meeting and visitor chair; four solid-wood legs, with the seat fixed at 17.3 in / 440 mm, make the waiting-area and living-room chair. Only the seat height, and only on the two bases with a gas spring. The Kinetic-Swing mechanism recognises the user’s weight and sets the backrest support pressure itself, so there is no tension dial. The one other control is a slider that locks the backrest for a rigid posture or frees it for a mobile one.
Five: black, light grey, wine red, terracotta and fir green. The seat can match the back for a monochrome chair or take a fabric from the Sedus collections for a two-tone look.
Yes. The seat is available upholstered in any Sedus cover group, and leather is listed as price group 0. The backrest stays in knitted membrane on every version, so a leather seat always sits under a membrane back; the two can be ordered in different colours.
Up to 130 kg (287 lb) on the polyamide five-star base and on the aluminium four-star base, and up to 110 kg (243 lb) on the four-legged wooden frame. The two star bases were load-tested to that figure for the GS certificate.
It is the colour of the plastic and technical parts, black or clear white, and it decides the colour of the base, the castors, the gas spring and the aluminium knot on the wooden frame. The height lever and the lock slider stay basalt grey whatever the model colour.

se:flair is 27.6 in (700 mm) wide across the shell. Space the chairs so that each sitter has the full width and the arms of two neighbours do not touch when both turn towards the head of the table.
For a table that hosts visitors, order the four-star base on glides (code 2214). It swivels 360° and is height-adjustable from 15.4 to 20.3 in (390-515 mm), but it does not roll away from the table when someone stands up.
Felt glides (2801) for wood, stone or resin; plastic glides (2800) for carpet. Sedus lists both for the aluminium and wooden bases. A meeting room with a carpet tile floor takes plastic, a boardroom with parquet takes felt.
With the chairs on glides, set every seat to the same height once, with someone sitting on it, and note it. Guests will not touch the lever, and a row of chairs at one height reads as tidy from the door.
The membrane comes in five colours and the bouclé in five more; a boardroom looks calm with one colour on every back and the model colour, black or clear white, repeated on every base. Two-tone seats work better in a lounge than around a table.
