Posa collection by B&B
Posa chairs, by David Chipperfield. The Posa series is named
after the Marquis von Posa, the idealistic hero of the opera Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller.
Schiller was born in Marbach Am Neckar, in Germany, the city where David Chipperfield recently
designed the acclaimed Museum of Modern Literature, completed in 2006. Chipperfield's work
is often inspired by architectural work, and Posa is no exception. Along with the B&B project,
Chipperfield was also designing an additional wing to the St. Louis Art Museum, in the U.S., where
he was also asked to design seating for the restaurant, the galleries, and sitting areas.
For this project, Chipperfield concentrated on the creation of versatile and durable seating
solutions, designed to satisfy high-level requisites for use, while conveying a feeling of luxury and
sophistication. This line of research meshed with another concept that Chipperfield also wanted
to explore: the creation of comfortable and soft seating through the use of thin, covered sections
applied to a light frame, using the highest level of production technology.
Posa is available in the following types: dining room, small armchair and sofa. Clean lines dominate
these seating solutions, with their hidden frames completely covered in fabric or leather.
